Refugee Law Initiative, London
Studio Nilima members, Abantee Dutta and Pushpanjali Medhi attended the widely acclaimed Annual Conference of the Refugee Law Initiative in London from June 3-5, 2019. The theme for this year was ‘Rethinking the “Regional” in Refugee Law and Policy’, the theme reflected how a host of ‘regional’ questions loom large for refugee protection in 2019. The conference theme interrogated the role of regional refugee law and policy in light of refugee movements and shifting politics of today’s world. (Programme Note, RLI 2019).
Abantee notes, “The conference made us as participants reflect on how we imagine a “region”, and understand “regional responses” from Africa, Latin America, the Middle East and Asia to local and global refugee challenges and examines the role of law and policy in these processes”. The keynote presentations of Professor Vicent Chetali, Founding Director of the Global Migration Centre and Professor of International Law at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies; Professor David James Cantor, Director of Refugee Law Initiative and Professor Elena Fiddian Qasmiyeh, Professor in Migration and Refugee Studies are available as podcasts and can be accessed via the link: https://rli.sas.ac.uk/resources/podcasts
